Band: Built to Break
From: Coachella Valley, California

Their formation story:
(TJ, vocals): "So our friend Sage who basically runs and has re built the scene out here in the Coachella Valley made a post on his Hot Stuff Booking page about getting involved in the scene and starting new bands. I figured id throw it out there that I used to do vocals and was down to maybe start something new.

"I hadn’t been in a band since like 2014 when I was in a band in the Inland Empire called Hollow. Within a couple minutes, my guitar player Nick had replied to my comment [laughs]. Me and him started brainstorming and trying to figure out a name and a style and he started writing riffs immediately.

"We then found our bass player Alex  and drummer Marcus via mutual friends in the area and I randomly found our other guitar player Seb at the gym nine day. We get called a Craigslist band lol and that’s honestly super actuate. We’re a pretty random group of dudes that just really clicked and work super super well together."

Their sound in their own words:
"We jokingly call ourselves 'caveman fight music' [laughs] so that’s a pretty accurate description of our sound. We all are pretty heavily influenced by early 2000s hardcore and a lot of NYHC.

"Some bands we all really connected on influence wise are bands like Backtrack, TUI, Expire, No Warning, Guns Up!, a lot of stuff like that. And my guitar player wanted it to be known his biggest influence is Mindforce’s Mike Shaw. He’s his hero [laughs]."

Latest release info:
"Oh man, we’re so unbelievably stoked that we just dropped our demo! We recorded with our dude Brad over at Localman Recording Studio a couple months ago. We just dropped it a couple weeks ago and we couldn’t be more proud of it. We put so much work and time into this and it feels really good to have music out.

"We called it the CVHC DEMO ‘25 because we all love this scene and everything it’s becoming. So because of that we got our good friends who are all in established bands out here now to do guest spots on all songs. We wanted this to be a little live letter to the CVHC scene."

Future plans:
"Dude we just wanna play as many shows out here as we can. We’d really like to get out to Arizona to okay with our boys No Choice and we’d like to get out around California if we can. We’re also writing for a split and an EP already so that’s super exciting."

What other bands from their region should we check out?
"Oh dude, everyone needs to listen to Face Facts, Killfloor, Bronca, and out little brothers, I Lay In Static! The CVHC scene is growing and thriving right now. Everyone needs to come play some shows out here and see for themselves."
