Ass Life: “Weird Hardcore” Specialists Return with “Sildenafil Penis” Music Video

Consisting of three Minnesotan musicians based in Los Angeles, Ass Life is a band that calls what they play "weird hardcore."

Formed in the 2010's, Ass Life released their third album last year, and if you're a metalcore head, take note that Dead to Fall bassist Chad Fjerstad is one of its members.

Here's what Maximumrocknroll had to say about the Ass Life album:

"I'm not sure if I fully get this band's mix of D-beat, stoner riffs, and surreal humor, but maybe I'm not supposed to. Who's to say what is irony, or if it even matters. The songs all rip pretty hard with full-throated hardcore and borderline metalcore chugging. The playing, thick production, and fat distortion tones are all top-notch."

Ass Life just made a music video for one of the tracks from the album called "Sildenafil Penis," which opens the record:

Ass Life guitarist and songwriter Andy Hill shared the following about the track:

"This song is obviously just a Discharge rip off. The structure is the same as Hear Nothing See Nothing Say Nothing. Intro, verse, chorus, solo, verse 2, chorus, end. It's like 1 minute and 3 seconds - no breakdown, no cute stuff. For the lyrics, this was in 2018-2019, I was reading about the war in Syria. And seeing pictures and videos- buildings being bombed, different paramilitary groups fighting each other and the government, the official Syrian government bombing and killing civilians, people dying by falling buildings and caught under debris, people burned, lost limbs, families and pets dead, horrible and hellish.

"I also knew the song was going to be called 'Sildenafil Penis.' I just wanted to yell that in a d beat song. The war lyrics paired with this drug that increases male virility. You could say there is a metaphor in there about men starting these wars and killing countless civilians, and benefiting from all the suffering, men with crazy egos and hard wangs for power. Mad with power, drunk with power, obsessed with death."

The third album, Ass Life, was released on CD in the form of a 3-album discography, including both previous albums, Damn, Dude, and A Couple Cold Ones as bonus tracks. You can get a copy at Bandcamp.
