You gotta appreciate the honesty in Primitive Impulse vocalist Thaddeus' reply when asked how his band initially came together. "We initially started the band just to get loaded, cause some trouble, and have some fun," the singer emailed me.
"Then over the years, after multiple member changes, we've found the perfect lineup and have really honed in on our sound and gotten more serious about the band. Trust me, we still do our fair share of getting fucked up and raising hell though."
Based in Cincinnati, Primitive Influence has released a self-titled EP in 2019, a follow-up called Hellish Idols a couple of years later, and just this month, a ripping LP called Piss It Away. "We recorded our newest record with our good friend Todd Utley over at Fuzzy Eyed studios here in Cincinnati. Its definitely our most aggressive release yet," Thaddeus said. "It's 13 tracks of depraved, unfiltered, belligerent hate."
The singer was also clear and direct about Primitive Impulse's prime musical inspiration: "We are definitely influenced by alot of different shit, but our biggest influence comes from the kings themselves, Poison Idea."
In our email exchange, I asked Thaddeus about his take on the local music community Primitive Impulsive was born out of. "The Cincinnati scene, while very incestuous, is very strong. The people that play in town are very talented and dedicated to their craft. We just need all of these kids at the gigs to start more bands.
"Some other excellent local acts include Butchers Dog, Rotting Hammer, MAW, Coleacanth, Nuclear Addicts, Demanix and Access to God. Theirs definitely more, but thats a good place to start."
With Piss it Away out now, Primitive Impulse is looking to bring their live show wherever and whenever the opportunity is presented. "If you got plenty of cheap beer, chances are we'll come play!"
