Citing the esteemed catalogs of Dischord and 4AD as influences on their sound, It It Kills You specialize in a post-hardcore sound packed with potent melodies and dissonant sonic flourishes.
2021 found the Bakersfield, California-based outfit working with Sparta's Jim Ward in the producer chair for their debut album, Invisible Self. If It Kille You kept busy in 2022 and 2023, releasing a split flexi with Division of Laura Lee and also appearing alongside Thrice, Fotocrime, and others on the Drive Like Jehu tribute compilation, Learn to Relax! A Tribute to Jehu.
For their next move, If It Kills You worked with the late great Steve Albini (Pixies, Nirvana) in the studio to track their forthcoming EP. The first sampling of the new material is being served up today via a track called "Asteroid Glue" which features guest guitar work from none other than Sergie Loobkoff, a musician who has played in such bands as Samiam, Knapsack, and Ways Away:
Here's what the If It Kills You guys wrote me about the collaborations:
"Growing up on classic records like 'In Utero,' 'Surfer Rosa,' and '24 Hour Revenge Therapy,' getting to record with Steve Albini at the wheel was always a bucket-list dream. Having Sergie Loobkoff play guitar on 'Asteroid Glue' feels like all of our interests crashing into each other."
This September, If It Kills You will head out to the UK for the first time, touring with London’s Ritual Error. Check out the dates below.
