While plenty of bands chase a bigger studio sound, Australia's Desperate Cry went in the other direction. The Central Coast trio tracked their debut EP, Overcoming the Fear of Reality Through the Acceptance of Mortality, live in one room, playing straight through as a unit.
Desperate Cry started during downtime from another project, when Ezra, Solum, and William realized they shared a fixation on death metal and crossover. That connection led to a new band focused on pushing themselves musically and drawing from early extreme metal and hardcore. The EP's title comes from their own struggles with mortality and the fear that comes with it.
Desperate Cry set out to capture the raw chemistry that only happens when a band plays together in real time. The process meant they had to rehearse hard before hitting the studio. They filmed the whole session and posted a documentary on YouTube showing the full live take.
Alongside new music, vocalist and guitarist Ezra is working to build up the Central Coast hardcore scene through his label, Off the Leash Records, and by booking more all-ages shows in the area.
