Act the Fool: German Hardcore Band Refines Their Approach on New Record

Act the Fool is a hardcore band from Germany that formed back in 2017. Earlier this summer, the quartet released their third EP, Nebel.

"I would say our sound is best described as an old-school hardcore punk with a lot of mid-tempo/two-step-parts and some faster punk sections," vocalist Christian Roth says. "You will not find many breakdowns or mosh parts in our songs, but a lot of emotions and anger!

"Bands that could fit our style include Comeback Kid and Have Heart, those styles and the Youth Crew bands are the biggest influences for everyone in Act the Fool."

The material on Nebel marks a new chapter, and presentation direction for Act the Fool as Christian explains: "The new thing is that all the lyrics are in German, and the sound is a bit darker and more well thought out. There is more of a personal note in the lyrics, but we still address political topics in our songs, like oppression, climate change, and the rise of the far right in Europe."

Act the Fool will be playing shows till the end of the year in support of the EP, with some touring coming up in 2025. "In south Germany, especially in the Stuttgart area, there are some great bands you should check out. The scene there is growing and developing since some time. First of all, you should check out Minus Youth! We played a lot of shows with them over the years, in 2023 there almost wasn’t a show we did not play with them. Big love to those guys!

"Devastate are great too, and also good friends of our band. There are also some new bands like Soulprison, Deadweight, Prison of Hope, and Defiance. Plus, more booking crews are founded like BNL Booking and Hinterland Hardcore Crew in Biberach. The scene is alive!"
