Band: Mind Your Own
From: Nueces County, Texas
Their formation story:
(Austin, vocals): "I had started trying to grab talent from around the Corpus Christi area, I was so desperate to make something new that nobody else was making. I felt like the mid-2000s era was widely forgotten about but it this super sick blend of genres but still hardcore at its roots, and it was my favorite era of hardcore so I figured why not focus on that?
"I ran through so many wish washy members before finally settling on the lineup we have now and we ended up with a weird blend of dudes where most of the members never truly wrote hardcore before this project, but they all dedicated themselves to the genre so quick.
"River is this nu-metal and metalcore guy, Ralph played modern metalcore, Aidan played BDM and slam, and Alex is a death metal and thrash guy, but I'm pretty sure was the only guy who really played hardcore before this, but it works so damn good. There an insanely talented group of dudes, and I love them all so much. I wouldn't wanna do this with anyone else."
Their sound in their own words:
"Mid-2000s mosh hardcore worship. We take a lot of inspiration from bands like xTyrantx, Fight Like Hell, early Bury Your Dead, Black My Heart, and Graves-era Recon."
Latest release info:
"Cut Your Own Path was so fun to write, we wanted to make sure you could tell there were people making the EP and not some stoic tough guy ensemble. We included some of our Texas favorites on the EP and got a giant group of friends to record the gang vocals for the intro in front of a venue after a local gig.
"We're all super proud of it, and the finished product feels super intimate and fun. Shout out Ruben from Beyond Reach for making sure it's exactly what we wanted, he even wrote a few of the guitar leads."
Future plans:
"Play out of town, play out of state if we can, make new friends, keep our nose to the grindstone and most importantly release more music."
What other bands from their region should we check out?
"There's so many bands to shout out but, I'd say the ones we play with the most and the ones we really hope people look out for are the ones who have aggressively supported us off rip.
"Shoutout" Tornado, Katywentmissing, No One Winz, Self inflicted, and absolutely everyone needs to keep an eye out for Price of Pain and Your Own Demise. Both of these bands are working on releases and are so talented."
