I wrote about Ruckus' two-song tape a couple of years back. It was cool hearing people from a hardcore/punk background eschew any modern stylistic trends and play a primal, visceral sound that keeps a certain stylistic flame burning.
Their debut 12", which dropped today, amps up the pub rock tendencies with a 1970s Stones vibe, New York Dolls swagger, sleazy Johnny Thunders-type leads, and all that captures an eternal NYC rock 'n' roll aesthetic.
It's no surprise that Ruckus features members who have played on some stone-cold punk/rock 'n' roll classics (God Bless the NY Hounds LP, Vanity's first LP), while bassist Mario DaCosta, seen smoking in the cover image, has recently filled in with local bovver rock purveyors Loosey.
This is tough, stripped-down urban rock with melodic flourishes that make for one cool soundtrack when it's hot in the city.
