Their formation story:
(Jess, vocals): "We’re Detach, an all-femme band from San Antonio, Texas. The formation of Detach occurred through the urge of wanting to make hardcore music as an all-femme band in a scene where we are constantly undermined as individuals. We’re also certain that we aren’t the only ones who deal with that either, which is why we want everyone to feel represented by what we stand for. We know what it feels like to be disrespected or not acknowledged by the people around us, or to only be seen as someone’s something. Whether that be “a merch girl” or someone’s partner.
"We each have individuality. We’re not just someone’s something. We feel like this not only happens in our scene but also in our workplaces, in our daily environments, and even in our governments and among those in political power. Detach’s formation evolved from getting away from what is expected of us and making those who deserve it uncomfortable."
Their sound in their own words:
(entire band): "Our sound can solely be described as hardcore. We all come from different hardcore styles, shaped by our day-to-day lives and what we individually listen to. Our main inspirations consist of Minor Threat, Rival Mob, Youth of Today, Jivebomb, and Skinhead."
Latest release info:
(Mog, guitar): "We wrote 'Weaponized Incompetence' in early December last year, and it really was a turning point for us musically and brought us together on a deeper level. We worked hard to make this song stand out, and if anything, make those who oppress women and fems coming up in the hardcore scene feel uncomfortable. The hardcore scene has always been predominantly male-oriented, and this has put pressure on women and fems, making them feel they need to be acknowledged or validated by a man to be viewed as more than a body. However, with 'Weaponized Incompetence,' we make it known that women are pivotal to this scene by actively challenging these societal gender norms.
"This song is for every woman and fem who has ever felt disrespected, overlooked, and ignored. Be yourself, and stand your ground. Especially with 'Weaponized Incompetence' - we shot a music video for it at one of our local venues, Fermenteria: an all-women-owned local brewery. We had 5 women there, Julie, Naomi, Corrina, Jess, and Sofi, who have been active in Hardcore for 15+ years, tell us stories of how much Hardcore has evolved since they’ve been in.
"They told us past stories of women not being allowed to mosh, be in bands, or solely be respected in different cities in America, solely because they were women. They were looked down upon. Hearing these stories solidified our message and what we wanted to express about the lyricism of this song."
Future plans:
(Autumn, drums): "Detach is a newer band, but we have a lot of plans for the future. Our biggest show to date is coming up this weekend, March 28th, as we open for Shattered Realm in San Antonio on their first Texas run in 20 years. Our main goal is to release an EP by May, and get on the road in the summertime and continue to tour the states as long as we’re able to."

(entire band): "San Antonio, and Texas as a whole, has an absurdly talented scene and has for as long as we’ve all been around. Funeral Service and Self-Inflicted are two bands in the area we highly suggest checking out. Both bands are hitting the road across the West Coast in the summertime. If they’re in your area, we absolutely highly suggest checking out a show. Some honorable mentions are Open World (San Antonio), Juicebox (Houston), Eyes of the Beholder (San Antonio), and Heaven Denied (San Antonio)."
