Their formation story:
(Nicho, vocals): "We go way back. In high school, we played together in a band called Impulse with another friend. We played shows for a while and were active locally, but eventually life got in the way, and the band stopped.

"Years later, we decided to get together again and start something new. We got together and wrote everything in two practices, and it pretty much felt like we picked up right where we left off. Some things about the sound have changed over time, but the chemistry and energy between us are still there. We got together a third time and recorded everything. APE-X is basically just us reconnecting and doing what we’ve always liked doing."

Their sound in their own words:
"Our biggest influence is the first wave of '80s hardcore. That’s the stuff we grew up loving, and we’re basically just doing our own take on that sound with some other elements mixed in. Bands like Los Crudos, Poison Idea, and Negative Approach are big influences.

"We’re just playing music that we think sounds good. That’s always been our approach. There isn’t much debate about direction — we’re all pretty much on the same page."

Latest release info:
"This is the first release as APE-X. The songs came together really quickly once we started playing again. It’s raw, fast, and straight to the point. The plan right now is to put it out on a 7-inch, possibly self-released."

Future plans:
"We don’t really have huge expectations. We just want to put the music out, play some shows, and see what happens. If people listen to it, cool. If not, we don’t really give a shit. We’re just trying to make the kind of music we would’ve wanted to hear when we were young punks."

What other bands from their region should we check out?
"Definitely check out Madrugado, Take Offense, and Violencia from Tijuana. Also, check out Intermission. One of the other members from our old band Impulse is in that band along with some other friends of ours, and they’re doing cool stuff."
