Bonded together by a shared love for fast punk and hardcore, Not Gorgeous features musicians who have also played in such bands as The Scarlet Letter, Dead Set On Destruction, Hello Romeo!, and The Ghost Armada.
The seeds of Not Gorgeous can be traced back a decade when husband and wife duo of Lauren (drums) and Jason Nagy (guitar) started formulating the project. Bassist Chris Barrett eventually joined the fold, travelling from Maryland to New York City for occasional practices. Things slowed down during the pandemic, but things got cooking again with the addition of vocalist Todd Currier in 2023.
Not Gorgeous began gelling together, playing a few shows in the New York Tri-State area, and in the summer and fall 2024, they headed to Backroom Studios and recorded their debut LP, We Are, with Scot Moriarty.
No Echo got its hands on "Seven Minute Voicemail," a track from the forthcoming album, to give you a taste of Not Gorgeous' speedy punk style:
Vocalist Todd Currier shared the following about the song's lyrics:
"'Seven Minute Voicemail' is about finding the strength to leave any type of negative or abusive relationship no matter how long it takes or uncertain the outcome will be. It goes out to anyone who broke free of that type of situation, and especially anyone still looking for the strength, opportunity and resources to do so."
