“As an angry teenager adrift in '90s pop music, I fell in love with hardcore because finally there was a place where I felt accepted and seen," says Anna Troxell, vocalist of Texas band Mugger. "In a time when the genre is more commercially accepted than ever, it’s important to echo back to its founding ethos of critical thinking, inclusion, and community.”
Anna couldn't be more right about that, and I'm happy to help spread Mugger's gospel here today via new track from their forthcoming one-sided 12" EP, Want the World.
But in case you haven't heard them yet, here's some context. The Austin hardcore combo features members of Creepoid, Radioactivity, and The Well, and they debuted last year via Get a Clue EP.
"This Is Ours" is the first taste of the forthcoming Want the World EP, and Anna says the song is "a declaration of both nostalgia and intention." Lyrics aside, the track is a classic hardcore-sounding stomp that gets to its point quickly and bluntly:
