Since reforming in 2022, the Dutch metallic hardcore band LIES! have steadily reestablished their place in the scene through consistent releases, and heavy touring. Records like last year's Victory Defeats Us All EP, and 2023's Mind Pollution album have helped push the band forward, while runs alongside Madball, Speed, Guilt Trip, and Death Before Dishonor have expanded their reach beyond their home base.
“People like us are often seen as outcasts, the weird guys driving across countries in a van, playing half-hour angry sets on small, filthy stages for next to nothing,” vocalist Rene tells No Echo. “We’ve been doing this since we were teenagers, and we’ve been around long enough to see how quickly people judge or write you off.”
That perspective is front and center on their latest track, “Blind Weight,” which features Jem Siow of Speed. The collaboration came from time spent together on the Rebellion Tour, when the connection clicked immediately. But thematically, the song digs deeper into something more personal. “That’s where this track comes from,” Rene explains. “Being overlooked, sometimes ignored, because you’re not the new thing or because you do things your own way.”
Rather than waiting for acceptance, LIES! have taken a different route. “After the pandemic, we regrouped as a band and decided to go all in,” Rene says. “Since then, we’ve seen a lot of Europe—not by chasing trends, but by putting in the work. We don’t think in terms of age, hype, or fitting into a scene. We think in energy, in connection, in what hardcore is supposed to be.”
That mindset is captured in the song’s defining line: “This ain’t home… so we made our own.” For the band, it’s more than a lyric. “That’s not just a line—that’s how we live this band,” Rene says. “Instead of waiting for acceptance, we built our own—a home with people around us who get it. And that keeps growing. It takes us from small stages to packed shows, all built on that same mindset.”
With a new double vinyl EP set for late summer 2026, LIES! continue to move forward the only way they know how—step by step, on their own terms.
