Fixation: Philly Hardcore Combo Waste Little Time on “You Feel Nothing” (PREMIERE)

I've been digging what Fixation has been doing for a minute now. The last time I wrote about the Philly combo, they appeared on the site's 12 Newer Hardcore Bands You Should Check Out list back in January. With a slashing sound that moves along with the rapid speed of early hardcore, Fixation's previous Marked EP got a ton of play during my gym visits, and seeing them live on a bill with Strife here in LA last year left me very impressed.

Well, Fixation is back with a new 4-track collection they've dubbed Into the Pain and it's even stronger than their last effort. Frontman Matthew Green (who is also a No Echo contributor) tears through the proceedings with a gruff vocal performance, while the tempo stays fast and before you know it, the case is closed. Dig in below:

"I wrote 'You Feel Nothing' with my upbringing in mind; examining my relationship with vulnerability, confrontation and regret," Matthew told me about the track and its lyrics.

For the Into the Pain studio sessions, Fixation hooked up with Wyatt Oberholzer, who recorded, mixed, and mastered the EP at The Knife Lair. Matthew recently interviewed Wyatt on this very site about his work with such bands as Year of the Knife and Drowse. The artwork for Into the Pain was done by Linas Garsys, another alumni of the No Echo interview family, who has also worked with such bands as American Nightmare and The Nerve Agents.

Into the Pain will be released as a flexi and through all digital outlets on May 10 through WAR Records and can be pre-ordered here. If you prefer digital, Bandcamp will take care of you.
