If you're looking for atmospheric post-hardcore packed with dissonant guitar hooks and big vocal melody lines, If It Kills You should take care of that itch.
Based out of Bakersfield, California, the quartet is gearing up for the release of their sophomore album, Invisible Self, which was produced by Jim Ward of At The Drive-In and Sparta fame, a musician who's discography has been a big influence on If It Kills You.
"Connecting with the guys in If It Kills You during the lockdown phase of the craziness we’ve been going through was a real blessing for me," said Ward about the collaboration. "Not only are they a great, creative band sonically, but the depth of lyrics and real intention was a joy to work with.
Today, No Echo is presenting the premiere of "Cloak & Dagger," an Invisible Self track that does a fine job of showcasing If It Kills You's stadium-sized sound:
In addition to Jim Ward's production (he also lends synth work to the project), Invisible Self also features guest appearances from Shelby Cinca (Frodus), Ben Davis (Sleepytime Trio, Bats and Mice), and Bill Taylor (Songs for Snakes), and violinist Jordan Belardes.
"Frodus is a big influence on our band," says If It Kills You vocalist Justin Martin. "The album And We Washed Our Weapons in the Sea is a personal top 10 for me. The frantic energy of Shelby's musicality was something we were ecstatic to have on our record."
Invisble Self will be released on April 1st and is available for pre-order on Bandcamp.
