At its best, hardcore music is a vehicle for action, not just expression. Grey C.E.L.L. are leaning into that tradition with the release of a new single that doubles as a direct fundraiser for displaced Palestinian families.
The band is releasing the track as a benefit for Give to Gaza, a grassroots effort that provides direct support to families currently living through the ongoing humanitarian crisis. Every dollar earned from the single will go straight to the families the organization is in regular contact with. There are no nonprofits or third-party distribution channels involved—just direct aid where it’s needed most.
As vocalist Eric Kane explains, “Grey C.E.L.L. is releasing this single as a benefit for Give to Gaza, a grassroots effort supporting displaced Palestinian families in Gaza. Every dollar earned from this single will go directly to the families that Give to Gaza is regularly in contact with. No nonprofits or shady distribution networks to siphon off the cash along the way.”
Kane continues, stressing the importance of direct action: “Direct donations are a lifeline and a means of survival, so we hope that you’ll buy the single, send support directly, and/or spread the word.”
The group is realistic about the scale of the crisis and what a single underground release can accomplish, but they see this effort as part of a broader ethic that has always been central to hardcore.
“As a band we’re under no illusion that we possess any kind of popularity or platform that will bring in anything approaching the urgent and insurmountable needs of these Palestinian families,” says Kane of the band. “For us, hardcore punk is a means of release for the anger and hopelessness we feel at the mounting oppression in the world. Our music is political, but it’s nearly meaningless without acts behind it. This small bit of solidarity is what we’ve found to do in the now.”
