If the combinaton of thick, reverb-soaked guitars and sugary vocal melodies floats your boat, I'm psyched to introduce you to Double Life.
The Los Angeles-based duo of Nick Vance and Rick Mendoza got the sound down. In addition to the aforementioned guitars and melodies, their arrangements are muscular—in other words, they have balls and don't fart around trying to force the atmospherics aspect of this style of shoegaze-kissed post-hardcore.
Double Life songs push and pull in different directions, keeping your attention, always keeping the Big Riff™ quotient in mind. It's no surprise Nick and Rick cite such influences as Hum, Far, and Burning Airlines in their bio sheet.
Later this month, Double Life will be releasing their debut EP, Indifferent Stars, and I'm beyond honored to premiere its title track for you today:
As you'll hear above, Double Life's sound could have easily landed the duo on Revelation Records or Creation Records if it were the '90s. What if Quicksand's rhythm section jammed with Chapterhouse? It's the kind of shit I think about, and maybe Nick and Rick do as well.
The Indifferent Stars EP will arrive on streaming outlets on January 24th.
