Band: Gnasher
From: Spartanburg, South Carolina
Their formation story:
(Killian, vocals): "So, Kenny (bass) and I formed Gnasher kind of spontaneously one day in like June or something of 2022. Kenny and I were talking for awhile about starting a purely beatdown hardcore band and one day he came over and we wrote our first song, 'War of the Worlds,' in like a half hour just on the fly, kinda almost as a joke at first.
"We realized when listening back that we needed to turn it into a full-on project, so within 12 hours, we started with nothing and ended with a full song and a distrokid along with an official Instagram account."
Their sound in their own words:
"I would say we are more beatdown with metalcore influences as far as some of the riffs go. We do our best to let the bass cut through as much as possible almost like a third guitar because we are only a duo and we want to highlight ourselves as much as we can to add to our sound.
"We take heavy inspo from old Varials, Nails, Kublai Khan, Knocked Loose, Thrown, Zulu, Two-Piece, Boundaries, and Mugshot, to name a few bands. Overall, we strive to go for a more modern 'cleaner' sound with a sort of old-school feel that makes people want to punch their loved ones respectfully."
Latest release info:
"So, for our newest song, 'No Friend of Mine,' we really wanted to collaborate with another band in some way, and we couldn't think of anyone better than Brayden from Candescent. All those guys are insanely talented and absolute sweethearts, and they were the first heavy local band that we saw live since I moved to South Carolina. I thought to myself, there is nobody better to get with and run a song together. I personally love the way Brayden and I's vocals contrast on this track.
"As far as thematically, the song is really written about someone who you once perhaps considered a close friend who then betrayed you or stabbed you in the back. But now that persons life is falling apart while you are thriving and you are getting to watch them sit in their karma."

Future plans:
"We are currently wrapping up our self-titled ebut EP that should be dropping before summer gets here. And after that we are working on a 4-song split with our friends in Such Cruelty. We also have our first live show on March 4th in Sumter, South Carolina, which we are ecstatic for."
What other bands from their region should we check out?
"Candescent, Such Cruelty, Your Spirit Dies, and Reviler."
