Song of the Day

Lookin Up, “Break” (2017)

Since I just came across the band for the first time earlier this week, I did some digging into Lookin Up's Facebook bio and learned that they're part of Aotearoa hardcore scene. Well, I'm not ashamed to admit that I had to look up where Aotearoa was, and upon further clicking, I found out that it was "originally used in reference to the North Island of New Zealand, is now the most widely known and accepted Māori name for the entire country."

Geography lessons aside, Lookin Up are a hardcore band that grabbed my attention with "Break," one of the two new songs featured on their brand-new demo. What I love about the track is that the band aren't afraid to repeat the hell out of the main guitar riff. Yeah, they know how goddamed good it is. The part is held down with a bouncy drum pattern that makes the thing even more delictable. At 1:30, "Break" ends just quick enough for you to go ahead and press the rewind button on the audio player.

You can download the 2-song Lookin Up demo on Bandcamp.
