Overthrow: LIHC Vets Announce Summer Dates With Shutdown, Dmize, and More

Long Island's Overthrow has announced a busy slate of summer tour dates in support of its latest album, Setting the Price. Originally formed in 1994, the band began playing sporadically again a few years ago before eventually writing new material. Last year saw the release of Setting the Price, the group's first full-length album since 1999's React, originally released through Triple Crown Records.

The band's upcoming schedule includes a Southeast run alongside NYHC veterans Shutdown and North Carolina's Lucky Feeling. Taking place July 17-19, the mini-tour will stop in North Carolina, Georgia, and Virginia. The Atlanta date is part of Culture Shock's two-year anniversary celebration and also features Criminal Instinct and King Nine.

For Overthrow guitarist Anthony Salerno, sharing the stage with Shutdown is particularly meaningful.

"Shutdown was a big part of that old-school style that influenced a lot of our writing and shaped our sound early on," Salerno says. "We're excited to do these shows with them." It's a fitting full-circle moment for the longtime Long Island hardcore band.

Overthrow has also announced a four-date California run, marking the band's first-ever trip to the West Coast. Vocalist Chris Ruffini is looking forward to finally making the journey. "We were actually supposed to play California back in the late '90s, but it never came together," Ruffini says. "Getting the chance to make that trip now—with my friends, at this stage of our lives, and with a new album to support—means a lot."

The California dates include stops in Oxnard, Salinas, Anaheim, and Tehachapi, with California hardcore outfit BDR joining the band for the Anaheim and Tehachapi shows.

Rounding out the summer, Overthrow will play two Northeast dates with legendary NYHC band DMIZE. The shows, scheduled for Connecticut and Rhode Island in August, are another highlight for the group. "It's going to be great getting back to places we've played before, like Connecticut, especially doing it with DMIZE," Ruffini says.

Perhaps ironically, this looks to be Overthrow's busiest summer in the band's long history. The group is embracing every opportunity. "The whole run this summer feels special," Ruffini says. "From heading south with Shutdown and Lucky Feeling, to flying out to California, to the Northeast dates with DMIZE."
