What’s that sound I hear? Buildings collapsing, a city burning, a monster rising from the deep? Or is it the return of Kaiju Daisenso, New York’s masters of monsterviolence?
For the uninitiated, Kaiju Daisenso combines punk and grind with more than a little psychedelic weirdness, delivering tales of giant monsters, devious robots, and evil aliens.
Their latest release, Carnivorous Aliens from Planet Terra, carries on in that tradition. There might be a little more reverb this time around, and the lead guitar a bit more spaced out, but it all works. These guys know what they’re doing, and any shift in sound only pushes things further in the right direction.
Today, we’re premiering the title track from the release. Sample-heavy and full of atmosphere, “Carnivorous Aliens from Planet Terra” clocks in at seven minutes, making it a true epic in the Kaiju Daisenso catalog:
A doom-laden riff trades blows with spacey guitar shredding before the band locks into their natural habitat: blast beats and hardcore punk fury. Whose brains did they need to eat to learn such underground wizardry?
Maybe the answer lies within.
