Scorched Mind haven’t slowed down since their last No Echo appearance—they’ve just tightened the screws.
Over the past year, the band focused on writing and recording their first full-length, Embracing the Dying Sun, tracking it in January 2025 with Matt Guglielmo (The Acacia Strain, END) handling production, engineering, mixing, and mastering at his New Jersey studio. The LP dropped later that August, marking a major step forward in both sound and scope.
Not long after, the band linked up with Papercut Recordings—a label run by Ryan “Tuck” O’Leary (Fit For A King) and Leo Valeri (Brand of Sacrifice)—who reissued the album as a deluxe version in April 2026. That expanded edition added two reworked tracks from their self-titled EP and a new single, “Terminal Lucidity,” which also received a video directed by Kurt Fowles (Years Spent Cold, CDC):
While the band’s output has grown, their core approach hasn’t shifted dramatically—it’s just become more refined. “We kind of toned down the chaotic, raw, big amp, nonstop feedback vibe into a more controlled, more precise, equally as aggressive sound,” guitarist Michael Tyahur explains. The result is a sharpened blend of HM-2-driven chainsaw riffs, fast, grindy death metal, and heavy hardcore-adjacent mosh parts—a balance between chaos and control that defines the band’s current identity.
The deluxe version of Embracing the Dying Sun acts as both a snapshot and a step forward. Built from a year of writing and studio work alongside Guglielmo, the release allowed the band to revisit earlier material and align it with their current direction. Reworking older tracks while introducing new ones like “Terminal Lucidity” helped bridge past and present, giving the record a more cohesive feel while pointing toward where Scorched Mind are headed next.
On the live front, the band has kept busy, hitting stages across the Northeast and building momentum through tight, high-energy shows. A recent stop in Binghamton alongside Two Piece, Pure Bliss, and Recount stood out as a highlight—“an absolute banger, packed out start to finish, nonstop movement,” as Tyahur puts it.
A weekend run through Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New York with Newandyke also saw the band sharing bills with Horse Grave, Riverbed, Passionplay, and Bore, further cementing their place in the current underground circuit.
That same circuit continues to inspire them. Bands like Killing Pace, Haywire, Division Of Mind, End It, Invoke, Pain Of Truth, and Missing Link are all on their radar, alongside established acts like Inclination, Vein, Nails, and Trapped Under Ice.
Looking ahead, Scorched Mind are keeping things simple: more shows, more touring, and more music. Vinyl for the deluxe LP is in the works, and new material is already on the horizon. As Tyahur sums it up, the goal remains straightforward—“rip cool gigs, write hard riffs, and see the world.”
