Dead Blow Hammer is comprised of hardcore scene lifers. With roots tracing back to the NYHC lineage of Agnostic Front and Cause for Alarm through bassist Rob Kabula, the band has always carried that DNA forward, evolving from its earlier incarnation as Against the Grain.
But if there’s one thing that defines Dead Blow Hammer in 2026, it’s persistence. Since their last appearance on No Echo in 2019, vocalist A.G. says the band has stayed in motion regardless of circumstances. “While a lot of people took a pause during the COVID era, we did the best we could to stay as active as possible,” he explains, pointing to a steady stream of writing, releases, and select shows that kept the band pushing forward. That consistency now leads into Resurface, a six-song EP that hits with the kind of force the band has been building toward.
That drive comes from a sharpened mindset. “Every moment counts,” A.G. says. “There is no time to be lazy… every action now is intended to strike while the iron is hot.” It’s a mentality that reflects both experience and urgency—a band that knows exactly what it wants to do and isn’t wasting time getting there.
On Resurface, Dead Blow Hammer still operates in the realm of hard-hitting, old-school hardcore, but they’re pushing beyond straightforward genre lines. “We didn’t want to make it just a straight hardcore song,” A.G. explains.
“You’ll hear punk, post-punk, Oi!, thrash, or crossover elements all at once.” And then there’s the wildcard: “We even got crazy enough to have a special guest professional opera singer, Kelly Wenz, on one of the songs.”
Recent Dead Blow Hammer shows with Billy Milano—through both M.O.D. and United Forces—stand out as highlights, alongside a run of dates in Italy that marked the band’s first time playing overseas. “It was our very first time playing overseas for DBH… we met new people over there that became great friends,” A.G. says.
At the same time, A.G. isn’t stuck looking backward. He’s dialed into what’s happening now, pointing to bands like Beton Arme, Poison Ruin, Sikm, Liberty and Justice, Savage Beat, and No Time as current standouts, along with releases coming out of labels like Mendeku Diskak and Mister Face Records.
Looking ahead, the mission is clear. “More volume, more intensity, and zero interest in playing it safe,” A.G. says. “If you come see us, come see the energy. Expect to feel that son of a bitch, not just hear it.”
