New Hardcore Band Spotlight: xPURITYx

Band: xPURITYx
From: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Their formation story:
(Tyler, bass): "xPURITYx came together in late 2024 after almost a year of saying 'we're gonna do it' every time we hung out or went to shows. All four of us are in pretty active hardcore bands in Delaware and Philly (Drag You Under, Inevitable, and Seismic Toss) and we always bonded over the fact that out even though none of our bands are 'straight edge bands,' we were the sole loud and proud members of those bands, proudly X'ing up for every show.

"Something I always thought was really cool is how all four of us are at different stages of our straight edge journey. I've been straight edge for over 15 years, and have never touched any substances. Leah and Chaise have been straight edge for only a few years after getting into hardcore but have embraced it fully and are some of the proudest I know (Chaise even has an X tattooed on his face).

"Josh claimed edge 5 years ago to be as positive of an influence as he can on his young daughter. However, we all feel the same about the lifestyle and how it makes us better people. That is what we wanted to convey with our songs."

Their sound in their own words:
(Josh, guitar): "Our sound is very early to mid-'00s based, focusing on heavy breaks and gripping, fierce lyrics expressing our beliefs and the world how we see it.

"Bands like Earth Crisis, Black My Heart, xAFBx, Throwdown, Fight Everyone, and xTYRANTx were definitely a huge influence in the writing process. xPURITYx is here to bring back the very in your face, take-no-shit straight edge attitude that we grew up with."

Latest release info:
(Leah, vocals): "We have a three-song demo where every song is about taking pride in the straight edge lifestyle in an aggressive and angry way. We wanted to highlight the unapologetic side of that through the sound and lyrics, and it definitely shows. xPURITYx is passionate about straight edge living and we aim to spread that word to those who agree or not."

Future plans:
(Tyler): "We're fortunate enough that Philly has such a welcoming and devoted scene, so over these next few months, we're focusing on getting on as many shows as possible and putting ourselves out there as much as we can. There's a great straight edge scene here too, so getting on as many all edge bills as we can is our goal.

"Our first release is on Yetzer Hara Records and CT has been a huge champion for our band, so who knows, we may even make it down to the Carolinas at some point. We're always writing too - one good thing about straight edge (among other good things) is that there's no shortage of shit to write about, so we are definitely going to get EP 1 out to the world this year."

What other bands from your region should we check out?
(Josh): "Execute, Damnations Domain, Year of the Knife, Ninth Cage and Mosaictheanimated. These are all bands local to where I'm from and have unconditionally showed support to any and everything I've done musically and they are very much appreciated for that."

(Tyler): "There's so many bands that deserve a shout out, especially straight edge bands. Bands like Hindsight, Demonstrate, and God Instinct are some of my personal favorite edge bands around right now. I have to shout out our friends in In Jest, Shock of Being, Meridian, too. Massive shout out to Some Ghosts as well, their singer Justin engineered our demo and completely killed it."

(Chaise, drums): "Bands I would say that deserve all the love are Splattered Spine, In Jest, Execute, Sixlet, Damnations Domain and Year off the Knife.
They’re killing it. Really firing on all cylinders, no apologies, and just going for it. They’re also all great human beings."

(Leah): "xAPATHYx. Enough said."
