French metallic hardcore force Beyond the Styx are set to return this May with their fourth full-length, DIVID, and today, No Echo is premiering the band’s new video for “Never Ending War.”
Active since 2011, the Tours-based quintet has carved out a reputation on a volatile mix of hardcore punk, thrash, and death metal, backed by more than 300 shows across Europe alongside heavyweights like Sepultura, Terror, and The Acacia Strain.
On DIVID, the band sharpens that sound into something even more aggressive and emotionally charged, delivering 10 tracks that channel abrasive fury, unearthly breakdowns, and a constant sense of looming darkness. The record digs into a world locked in permanent conflict—where war, indifference, and systemic decay feed an endless cycle of division.

For vocalist Emile, the song stems from a lifelong inability to make sense of human conflict. “War has left me in a state of shock since I was a child… I have never understood, and I don’t think I ever will, in whose name or for what purpose we could possibly wish for the annihilation of our fellow human beings,” he explains to No Echo.
That perspective took on even greater weight when he began researching the scale of modern warfare. “The ICRC estimates… approximately 130 armed conflicts worldwide in 2024,” he says. “While my eyes were mainly fixed on the Eastern front, 128 conflicts whose existence I was unaware of were at work.”
Quoting French poet and essayist Paul Valéry: “War is a massacre of people who don’t know each other, for the benefit of people who do know each other”—Emile points to the deeper systems at play, where economic interests and political power sustain cycles of violence.
“We spend our lives convincing ourselves that life is priceless, while the price of peace only increases,” he adds, questioning how nations can promote human rights while simultaneously fueling the global arms trade.
