Band: Watch List
From: Tampa, Florida
Their formation story:
(Eliot Mayo, vocals): "After the breakup of a band I had just recently formed as well as my other band Plague Spitter, PS's drummer Eric and I started talking about starting a new band with our buddy Woody, who talked to our big homie Tim and then we all got together and the rest is how it is now.
"We've all been friends for years and that and a shared love of hardcore made Watch List what it is now, 4 big dawgs playing fast, angry hardcore for the love of the game. We quickly wrote 3 songs and self recorded them for our demo and dropped that right before our first show opening for Haywire here in Tampa.
"Since then, we've been rocking some sick gigs and the mighty Armageddon Records dropped the demo on tape as well, which was an awesome and unexpected development so shout out to the team."
Their sound in their own words:
"We're definitely very on the punk-leaning side of hardcore, fast and pissed joints with some hard skank/stomp parts thrown in for good measure. Everyone in the band has different influences, I personally draw a lot of my vocal style from older Ceremony, Rival Mob, and Coke Bust among other bands."
Latest release info:
"We just dropped a new song called 'Boiling Point' right after July 4th passed and I reflected on how there doesn't feel like there's literally anything to celebrate about this country right now, when tax dollars are fueling the attack of our people simply for existing while not being white and a genocide overseas, among other heinous human rights attacks on the marginalized people in our own country and abroad.
"It's disgraceful and the lyrical content of the song reflects that. Alongside that we have the 3-song self titled demo that's out on Armageddon as of May."
Future plans:
"Writing new songs for a handful of different releases like a new EP as well as hopefully a split with a very sick band, rocking a bunch of sick shows both in and out of town, business as usual for the core, you feel me?"
What other bands from their region should we check out?
"Florida is at an absolute peak right now in terms of punk, hardcore, metal, and beyond. Here are a handful of great bands from the region: Age of Refuge, Blockade, Concrealer, Drawn Out, Fallen God, No Truth, Remote Control, Thrull, Wasted Life...honestly too many super sick bands I could be here all day naming them..shout out Armageddon Records check out every damn band on that label, for real."
The 3-song Watch List demo is available on cassette via Armageddon Records.
