Band: Sweet Fantasy
From: Shrewsbury, UK
Their formation story:
(Polly, vocals): "There’s a blossoming DIY punk scene in our hometown of Shrewsbury led by the One Hand Clapping collective, where we all initially met a few years ago. Its definitely a thriving scene for a small medieval town in Shropshire and the Sunday matinees especially drawing in punks from out of town.
(Jack, guitar): "Me and Ewan (bass) already played in a couple of bands but after seeing Polly lip syncing to the spice girls up on a table as part of a cabaret show one night at our local bar we decided she was the perfect person to front a new band. It also worked out because Polly’s brother George plays drums too!"
Their sound in their own words:
(Jack): "Our influences are generally based on but not limited to '80s UK Punk and '80s U.S. Hardcore, Ewan is also fanatical on Norwegian hardcore.
(Polly): "'90s girl power also!"
Latest release info:
"After frantically writing some songs and getting a short set together for our first show which was already booked playing with The Flex here in Shrewsbury, we recorded a practice room demo tape ourselves at black lodge and our good friend John Andrews mastered it."
Future plans:
(George, drums): "We’re playing with Siyahkal in Leicester 10th of November and the annual one hand clapping Christmas gig with rainbow grave on the 19th of December which is always fancy dress and good fun. Also working on some new music and in the middle of organising a weekender in January with Crystal Ball and hopefully many more gigs weekenders and tours in 2026!"
What other bands from their region should we check out?
"The Shrewsbury sound includes WEO, Half Brick, Crystal Ball, Logger Head. Bands who’ve come through Shrewsbury who have been a amazing are Gimic from Bristol, Mother Nature and Self Immolation Music from Leeds as well as DIALL from Newcastle."
