Band: Exfetus
From: Manado, Indonesia
Their formation story:
(Geo, bass): "We were forged from the same spirit, which initially brought us to underground gigs (hardcore) in our area. Curiosity then led us to the true essence of hardcore, and we formed a band.
"The band's inception began when our friend Matt (No Match Records) sparked Radja (vocalist) to create a hardcore band comprising fresh faces, or rather, new blood in the MBHC (Manado Bay Hardcore) scene. Radja then recruited Jojo (guitarist/vocalist), who happened to be friends with Wall (guitarist), our eventual riff master.
"During our search for the perfect lineup, we also called upon Jey (drummer), who filled the backend of the band. It was during their first meeting at a cafe in Manado that I coincidentally bumped into them, and I eventually joined the band as the bassist."
Their sound in their own words:
(Radja, vocals): "This band is a fusion of several genres. We originally wanted to play like H8000, but that was too dominant for this year [laughs]. And from this EP we found the line, making this sound like Undying, It Dies Today, and Merauder, which is also our main influence."
(Jey, drums): "Some became several inspirations like Contention and Congress, plus riffs for breakdowns taken from 2000s metal bands, plus diverse inspirations from each person resulted in our material."
Latest release info:
(Radja): "Rebirth In Pain is the part of learning for us as players, and perhaps for those of you who persevered through failure. 3 songs and 1 intro are enough to show the bravery and changes in our personalities due to social problems. Being a part of vocals and writing this feels special to me, because I can express all the words with a style I've never said before.
"While creating this song, we were also trying to find a new style for hard mosh, so it's an important part of who we are as MOSH HEAVY CREW."
Future plans:
(Wall, guitar): "So far, we have three unreleased songs. Hopefully, we can release them before the tour starts. Currently, we are planning a tour with our friends, Sacrify. We'll be visiting several locations, we can't wait to go on vacation [laughs]. The tour will be handled by the MBHC unit collective, shoutout to New Blood Academy 431."
What other bands from their region should we check out?
(Radja): "We're excited about this question because we hope it's more than just a reference. From the Christcore side, we have Sacrify, who just released a brutal single. We also have Medium, a local band that's been a huge influence on Exfetus.
"Moving on to the midfield, we have Fistful Threats, who pioneered beatdown in the 431 area and also plays some metal riffs. Still in the beatdown family, we have Mepuzo, a band that always makes me want to eat their mic [laughs]."
(Geo): "After the beatdown we have Huminoid, one of the monsters in the MBHC scene that we admire. They're not only legendary for their music releases, but also for their electrifying live performances. And the fact that they've toured countless times is truly inspiring, and it's also one of our dreams."
(Radja): Likewise with Forreign, Vein.fm is a core part of their style; 'Don't need darkness to lead you astray,' they say. In a chilled corner of town, we have 406. Fresh young blood matches perfectly with their playing style, which they call TTHC."
