Band: Die Laughing

Their formation story:
(Jeff Hill, vocals): "Die Laughing formed mid-October 2024. My decade-plus main project [Machinist!] was going on hiatus and I honestly felt depression pushing hard on me. I was still doing solo spoken word gigs and writing for that but the prospect of not having a heavy thing or even a musical thing was daunting.
"Drew was in a wild band called KillMePlease that put a split out with Machinist! years ago. He also recorded backing music for a few poems I released. I knew I was still writing lyrics for heavy songs and I knew Drew would catch the vibe immediately. Because that’s how talented he is. I’m gonna say that the speed at which he wrote and edited and rewrote tunes was honestly intimidating. But also the project was happening with no further plans. It was happening literally just to make a thing.
"I think that that lack of pressure allowed us to move through whatever ideas came through and it’s led to a record that I really fucking love. I said once 'would we do blah blah blah”' and Drew was like, 'We are so we would.' I think about that all the time.
"He’s in Pennsylvania and I’m in South Georgia so the whole thing was through google drive. Shout out Matt Zagorski from Drosera for teaching my Luddite ass about starred files. All that to say text your friend and start a band."

Latest release info:
"The record is called Fingers Crossed, and it’s 8 tracks. We dropped a single called 'The Mass Grave' a few weeks ago with a video Drew edited of old propaganda footage. The song is a strong example of the over all vibe of the record. Honestly, these songs the words at least are a direct reflection of the world around us.
"Drew and I are both dads to kids in the same age range. We are both trying to be hopeful and resolute in a fucked world where the forever war is real. It’s that but also zoomed in on the microcosm of friends and family being crushed by medical debt and insurance denial. While others are murdered for daring to try to live authentically in public. It’s the god damn power bill. It’s always something, right? I honestly can’t imagine having not written these songs. I’d be bad off. Anyway. Want it to be better. But fucking will it? Yes. Fingers. Crossed."
Future plans:
"Write the next record starting ASAP. There’s words. There’s silly as fuck ideas that Drew hasn’t said no to officially yet."
What other bands from their region should we check out?
"Down here (Georgia) it’s wild. Last week we got new tunes from Lash Meat, Watch List, Pavlov’s bell. On top of that, I’m right near Gainesville and down there is Drosera, Sandcrawler, Confession Kids. There’s a DIY spot there called The Ox and they’re doin it.
"Drew’s neck of the woods has bands like Skull Presser, Commitment, SUNK, Force Feeder, Batflower, and plenty more coming out daily."
