Wise Up* has done it once again. "Trascender," the first strike off their upcoming LP Diente X Diente (Tooth by Tooth, in Spanish) just dropped, and it hits exactly where it should.
On the track, the Ticos keep sharpening their blade. The aggression is still front and center: raw, unfiltered hardcore but laced with thick ‘90s textures. There’s grit in the riffs, a grunge-stained haze creeping into the breakdowns with flashes of alternative rock atmosphere that stretch the songs without softening the blow. It’s evolution without compromise!
In terms of their influences, Wise Up* point to everyone from Trapped Under Ice, Mindforce, Big Boy, Leeway, Shackled, and The Beautiful Ones to Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, and Silverchair, a mix that bleeds through in both the stomp and the atmosphere.
Diente X Diente takes those influences and pushes them to the surface. The record swings hard, fast, aggressively, and packed with power, but it breathes too. There are spacious, almost psychedelic sections that give the chaos shape. The dynamics feel intentional. The flow feels natural. It’s the kind of album that loops back on itself and demands another spin the second it ends.
Wise Up* will debut the new material live in Ecuador next week on March 10th, while opening for Aussie hardcore heroes Speed, alongside F.A.C.A, Clique, Nada a Cambio, Conflicto, Memento Mori, Sacrificium Tagaeri and Sentencia de Muerte.
Pura vida!
