Many No Echo readers will recognize Vadim Taver from his work in such bands as This Day Forward, A Life Once Lost, and Poison the Well. A veteran of the hardcore scene, the musician and producer grew up performing in jazz ensembles, concert bands, and even toured internationally as a member of the Philadelphia Boys Choir. Not too shabby!
Today, we're excited to help premiere Vadim's reimagined version of “Serenade (Redux)," a song originally written and performed by '90s hardcore band, Ashes. If you aren't familiar with them, the Maryland quartet featured Brian McTernan and Matt Squire, who would also go on to play together in Battery, before both becoming sought-after producers.
But back to Vadim. On this etheral cover of “Serenade (Redux)," he collaborated with William J. Sullivan, a talented producer whose credits include work with Kid Cudi and Dave East:
Vadim was kind enough to send No Echo some thoughts on the new track:
“Ashes were a band I’ve loved since my teens and 'Serenade,' in particular, has been a song that I’ve never stopped coming back to. I’ve always enjoyed reinterpreting and making renditions of others’ music and this project allowed me to take a practically forgotten song and make it my own while maintaining the elements of what attracted me to it in the first place. William J. Sullivan is a good friend who has worked with many high profile artists and his knowledge of the studio and recording was unprecedented in helping to achieve what I heard in my head.”
“Serenade (Redux)” will hit all major streaming platforms on June 6th.
