Featuring members of No Cure, Stolen Gun, and Dysmorphia, U.S. death-thrashers Emaciated will be kicking off 2026 by releasing Praise Be, The Iron Apostle, the follow-up to their Death from the Southwest LP from last year.
Across the record, drummer/vocalist Duncan Newey leads the assault with an all-out percussive blitz, spitting venomous vocal blasts while locking into a rhythmic onslaught built for the moshers. Meanwhile, guitarists Wavy Ramirez and Ian Straface fire off a relentless cyclone of riffs and dive-bombs shrieking like low-flying warplanes, while bassist Joshua Peltoma holds down the low end. Emaciated's sound is a rabid fusion of extreme-metal ferocity and hardcore venom, channeling Power Trip’s urgency through the razor-edged thrash of classic Testament.
Today, No Echo is premiering “Test Tube Nativity," the first taste of Praise Be, The Iron Apostle. The track holds a special place in the arc of the rest of the EP. Newey explains that the song kicked off the writing process for the entire record, emerging from the creative bond he and Wavy have sharpened since they were 15:
“Typically Wavy will have a riff or maybe a chorus and I’ll track him and build a hypothetical drum part around it. That’s how this song came to life. It was the first song we wrote for the new record, and we didn’t really know what direction we wanted to go in. We ended up writing probably our most thrash song ever, which molded the new sound. It takes influence from all the bands we grew up listening to, so it feels very full circle.”
The track fits into the band’s overarching narrative—a bleak sci-fi storyline detailing humanity’s collapse on a dying Earth. On Praise Be, The Iron Apostle, the timeline jumps forward roughly two decades after their debut, as a class-divided world reaches its terminal phase.
“All of Emaciated’s songs are part of a bigger story about the decline of human life on Earth," explains Newey of “Test Tube Nativity” and its lyrics.
"The wealthiest people have relocated to a new planet, leaving the rest behind to rot or build a depraved underground civilization. Scientists return to Earth looking for the second coming of Christ because they think they left him behind. 'Test Tube Nativity’ is about them finding a newborn abandoned on the surface and rebuilding him from scratch—grooming this child into becoming their new savior.”
