The Flatspot Records artist roster keeps growing as the label has announced the singing of Bodyweb, a UK-based quintet. Louis Hardy (Higher Power, Big Cheese, Fate) and Ben Jones (ex-Pest Control) began putting the band's pieces together in 2022.
"Influence wise, it’s the sum of a trillion things in the pot," Hardy told me in a 2023 No Echo profile. "The entire year I was just curating the darkest shit I could find: Dystopia, Stalaggh, early Ross Robinson records, some '90s/'00s metalcore/emo, movies like Irreversible, Lilya4Ever, Killing of A Sacred Deer, etc., the list goes on."
Bodyweb's debut EP, train_wreck_simulation, arrived in 2023, and since then, Hardy and Jones have been joined in the group by pq (Nihiloxica) handling the electronic side of their sound, guitaist Tom Hobson (Dai Tan Films), Naomi Macleod (Empire State Bastard) holding down bass duties, and Luke Thompson (Stiff Meds) has replaced Jones in the drummer position.
The Bodyweb x Flatspot signing is being celebrated today with a music video for "deadwire," a track from the band's forthcoming debut EP for the label, deadwired. The Martina Pastori-directed clip just dropped:
"It’s about fading relationships, cutting people off, and seeking truth in a world of lies," says Hardy about the track.
"Life is full of suffering, but being entirely blameless for your own suffering is a surefire way to becoming disconnected from your own soul. It’s important to have faith in something.”
