Band: Trucha
From: Omaha, Nebraska
Their formation story:
(Elliot Gates, guitars): "Most of us had been homies for a long time—going way back. Always into the Omaha scene, mostly hardcore and EBM. During the pandemic we spent a lot of time in my basement shaping this demo, really honing in on something that represented an aggression and focus that we weren’t hearing elsewhere…
"Once stuff opened back up again, we ran into Cameron who was already drumming in a bunch of bands and got him on board - and now we’ve been playing for a year. Band is me and Ryan Meyer on guitar, my brother Jake on bass, Cameron Craig on drums, and Gabriel Medel on the mic."
Their sound in their own words:
"A crossroads of late '90s hardcore and '80s metal. I feel like the whole time we were writing the demo we were just blasting a lot of early Meshuggah and Biohazard. I’ve always been drawn to writing more technical riffs, polyrhythms, weird time signatures, etc., but then the rest of the band works them down to be more groovy and less jarring. Keeps you on your toes."
Latest release info:
"So, we just released the second teaser for our upcoming full-length, The Devil’s Grip. The track is called 'Maldito Tiempos' and might be one of the heavier tracks we’ve done to date.
"The whole track is a statement of frustration and torment. Essentially trying to keep on a path and do what's right, but the compass is broken and we lose our way. Trying to do good then fucking it up."
Future plans:
"Just gotta get this record out. Our demo songs are sick, but this new record really shows our true grit. Hoping to have it out and be on the road by the end of summer/fall. Looking forward to meeting new faces and showing people what we've been working on. We're very lucky to be surrounded by a music scene that sprints in every direction."
What other bands from their region should we check out?
"Shout out to Fire Sign, X-ID, Dose, Jack and the Slammers, Mass Hysteria, Glow, Treeline, Paid to Smile, DJ Lady Muerte, Specter Poetics, Jeff In Leather, Fyzical, Valley Street, and Lead Spirit."
