Band: Sicko

Their formation story:
(Laurens, vocals): "We’ve all been in different bands in the local scene here in Lokeren (Belgium). Mindwar, Pebble, Lustrous, and Face First just to name a few of the bands. I initially wanted to do some more power violence oriented stuff and that's how I got the idea for the band name, after the song named "Sick-o" by Infest.
"I pitched the idea to Matthias. A band called Sicko that starts with me shouting 'alright you sick fucks' followed by a sick riff. I need not say more, I had found a guitar player. We then added Dieter on drums and Jens on bass."
Their sound in their own words:
"During the writing process we landed on a more hardcore punk leaning sound. We've been inspired by loads of early '80s American hardcore punk; Negative Approach, Void, and Black Flag, just to name a few. Of course, we don't live in a complete sonic vacuum.
"There's plenty of modern influences such as The Fight, Bib, and Gag. In terms of riffage, the 2012 demo by Glue was a big one."
Latest release info:
"The songs were written from an outsider perspective. Being perceived as 'sick'’ while also using this trait as an empowering asset. Five straight forward, aggressive, and to-the-point songs, five Primal Hymns For The Unwell; music for the outcasts.
"It was all recorded in the basement of our bassist and mixed and mastered by Will Killingsworth at Dead Air. We wanted to do as much as as possible ourselves, but to get the sound just right we knew Will would be the man. He did a phenomenal job, we couldn't be happier with the result."
Future plans:
"Playing as much shows as possible. We’re also looking to put this EP out in physical form."
