New Hardcore Band Spotlight: GVSAR

Band: GVSR
From: Tangerang, Indonesia

Their formation story:
(Ostra, guitar): "Helmy, our drummer, and I go way back to junior high school, where we were part of a punk rock band that eventually evolved into Rejected Kids, whom I believe are one of the best punk rock acts in Indonesia. Although I left the band in 2009, they continue to thrive, having released an EP and two full albums.

"We stayed in touch, and last year, amidst exchanging YouTube videos of the latest hardcore bands like GEL, Scowl, and Angel Dust, we decided to form our own hardcore band. We began exchanging guitar riffs, and when it was time to hit the studio, we brought in some old friends from the neighborhood who shared our upbringing in the music scene.

"Ridwan, now the guitarist in Rejected Kids, and Bimo from another punk rock band joined us. Lastly, we invited Kindi, a vocalist from a metal band we once toured with."

Their sound in their own words:
"Although we were rooted in the punk rock and metal scene, hardcore music was always present. Hardcore bands were a staple at the gigs we played, and we were often invited to perform at hardcore gigs. Our shared love for Comeback Kid served as our gateway to hardcore music, and bands like Have Heart, Bane, and newer acts like GEL also influenced us."

Latest release info:
"We self-produced our own EP that will soon be released. It features six songs, including 'Okupasi Diri,' our first single. I wrote this song to encourage the youth to recognize their self-worth and seize control of their lives. Additionally, we created a music video to promote the song, directed by Bimo, our bass player."

Future plans:
"Looking ahead, our mission is clear: play as many gigs as possible and leverage social media to share our music with the world. Our EP is currently in the final stages of production, and we're eager to release it and hopefully we can celebrate it with a launch party."

What other bands from their region should we check out?
"While not from our specific region, I highly recommend checking out Bleach from Bandung, who recently dropped their debut album. They're that good, goddamnit."
