Band: Gang Busters
From: Houston, Texas
Their formation story:
(Cameron, vocals): "We've all been in bands with and known each other since getting into hardcore around '07/'08ish. Zach (bass) and I started our other band, Freeze Out, at the beginning of 2024 so I asked him if wanted to get in on it and learn bass and he did.
"Boosty (drums), Abe (guitar), and Brandon (guitar) were all in older bands with me so it's kind of just rekindling things we've been doing for years."
Their sound in their own words:
"Early Lockin' Out, Boston straight edge but there's been some like late '80s and early '90's New Jersey influence lately too so the sound is kind of evolving on its own. For fans of Jaguarz, Floorpunch, The Wrong Side, Rampage, and Stop and Think."
Latest release info:
"My other band was playing the Rebirth Showcase in Philly back in March-- Zach and Boosty were also there-- and our good friend Briz who writes Blast of Power Fanzine floated the idea of doing like a 3-song flexi to release with his next zine.
"I love Briz and dated hardcore novelties so we were very down. The boys got the songs written in like 2 weeks, and the Back to Back cover was a no-brainer. We gotta remind some kids about one of the most important bands in Houston hardcore history."
Future plans:
"Just to play more shows at home. We're all big boy jobbed up and I got a family so we're just taking it where we can get it. Me and Zach have quietly talked about doing a split with a band we love but I will not be counting those chickens just yet."
What other bands from their region should we check out?
"Texas is in a real renaissance period where everything fucking rocks everywhere but in an attempt to keep myself from listing 500 bands I’ll say in Houston check out Warden, Finesse, Private Eye, Arsenik, NRA, Missile Crisis, Ancient Ones, and Off My Chest.
"In Fort Worth, shout out Ozone and Spit My Rage, in SA check out Nemesis, Limit of Destruction and It’s The Limit. Austin it’s god damn Paradise. Listen to anything put out on Coreruption Records.
"Okay, I’m gonna stop but I really am doing everybody a disservice because every band in all these places at any show any point in time are front runners for the best hardcore bands out right now just check it all out, man. Nihilistic Easyrider and Bleed for non hardcore. I’m done for real."
