Aaron Stauffer is playing the long game when it comes to his music. "This song is #30 out of what will hopefully be 100," the former Seaweed and current Ghost Work vocalist tells me.
"That is my goal is to complete 100 Aaron Stauffer project songs. Last year, I only completed 3, and this is the second song for 2025 so the project is on track for completion in approximately 25 years (i think i will get another track completed in 2025).
"I've been surfing alot so that doesnt increase my song production speed. I have surfed nearly 100 times in 2025. I clearly love to count [laughs]. Basically, I work 3 three long days and have the rest of the week off; hopefully to surf."
The new track Aaron is referring to, "Caught Behind Your Luck," finds him not only covering vocal duties, but also guitars and keyboards. The drums, additional guitar, and background vocals were handled by the song's producer, Ollie Werner:
"This song, lyrically, is about sharpening one's senses to be ready for whatever the future throws your way," says Aaron. "To be ready to roll when you fall. 'Caught Behind Your Luck' is special because it features a new collaborator and producer, Ollie Werner; someone I have known and played music with for a long time and finally convinced to work on one of my songs. I am very happy with the outcome."
I tell Aaron whenever I wear my Spanaway t-shirt to a show, people stop me and talk Seaweed. "That is funny," Aaron responds. "Some of the peeps in the surf world here know about the Weed. It actually came up today."
After I mention that a booking agent friend here in Los Angeles would love to get his former band to reunite for some live action, Aaron responds:
"There will never be another reunion show. But I love to sing better with [Seaweed bassist Owen] Atkins band the Fucking Eagles. When I sing [Misfits song] 'Hybrid Moments' with them, that is probably the closest we get to a Seaweed reunion."
Outside of his solo work, Aaron has done some more studio work we can look forward to. "I recently collaborated with the band 84 Tigers — just singing some backup vocals on a track slated for release in early October. That was very fun. I am always open to this kinda collaboration with bands if I think I can add to the track."
