New Hardcore Band Spotlight: Fates Messenger

Band: Fates Messenger
From: UK

Their formation story:
(Tony Maddocks, vocals): "Fates Messenger have formed out of the ashes of UK hardcore/thrash bands Above All, Romeo Must Die, and Dishonour the Crown. Made up of members myself, Ron (guitar), Paul (bass), and Will (drums), all four musicians have toured extensively in the hardcore and metal worlds and have time away from playing music but all felt they had unfinished business and following on from an Above All reunion show just after the COVID lockdown eased Fates Messenger came into being.

"After it soon became apparent that life was getting in the way of a full Above All resurrection and being able to play again, it was ‘fate’ that brough us together."

Their sound in their own words:
"I would describe our sound as a modern take on a thrash heavy metallic hardcore sound with elements borrowing from many genres-metal/metalcore/hardcore/death and thrash. No boundaries and not one particular scene. We are just writing the stuff we like to hear. Its heavy, aggressive but quite varied as well.

"I think all of us bring different influences. Ron definitely brings a big thrash influence and I think it mixes well with all our hardcore/metal backgrounds. For fans of Machine Head, Hatebreed, Fear Factory, Vision of disorder, Malevolence, and Integrity, to name but a few."

Latest release info:
"Our first release is a self-produced 2-track single, Scars/Bonechapel, two different-sounding tunes that take influences from Machine Head, Fear Factory to Hatebreed and Integrity. An accompanying lyric video for 'Bonechapel' was just released, which again is self produced and been put together by Will the drummer.

"There’s a strong sense of self belief and a DIY spirit within the band and we are definitely enjoying keeping as much control on the bands artistic development and output and believe in the music and visuals we are creating."

Future plans:
"To get out and start playing around the UK and Europe as much as our busy lives will let us and to keep releasing quality heavy music. We have another six songs recorded and will be filming a live video to accompany this when our next EP comes out. The release date will be announced later."

What other bands from their region should we check out?
"There’s some incredible UK bands around at the moment, I don’t think the UK’s hardcore/metal scenes have ever been so strong with heavy weights such as Malevolence and Sylosis leading the charge to more local bands such as Splitknuckle, Graven Image, Hounds of the South, and Mob Handed all having released or soon-to-release incredible records."
