Band: False Alarm
From: Orlando, Florida
Their formation story:
(Steven, vocals): I had been randomly thinking, "Damn, I really want to start a band finally." Rafa (guitarist) was at Foundation (a vintage/record shop where I work and a lot of us hang out) one day, and we were talking. He mentioned he wanted to start a band and had already asked KC (bassist). I was like, "Yo, let me be in the band. I'll sing."
(KC, bass): I remember the idea of starting a "regular" hardcore band being thrown around, and I said I wanted to do something like that. I personally thought Orlando needed something like that. Rafa knew Rei (drummer) from back in Puerto Rico, and he would constantly be like, "I have riffs in my head; we just need to build them." After picking up jit Jackson (guitarist) at a local gig, the rest is history. We wrote about 5 songs in a couple of weeks and recorded as fast as we could.
Their sound in their own words:
(Steven): "We just really wanted to go for a traditional, aggressive, fast, hardcore style, but our influences accidentally come through a lot, which I feel like is unintentionally the NYHC sound, cause that's what I always gravitated towards. I'd like to say, Agnostic Front, Leeway, Killing Time, Sheer Terror, and sprinkle some Poison Idea in there, and that's what we got."
(Jackson, guitar): "I feel like the most obvious comparison would be New York Hardcore in the vein of Killing Time or Warzone, but I pull most of my inspiration from Boston bands like The Rival Mob and Stop and Think."
(Steven): "Yeah, like in my mind I'm always thinking Floorpunch and Mental, but then I write, and I'm like fuck this sounds like some NYHC shit, true to my roots, I guess."
(KC): "I think, yeah, we pull from the obvious NYHC. My family is from that area they showed me a lot of that growing up. My dad showed me Cro-Mags when I was like 9 or 10, along with Agnostic Front and other crossover, thrashy, punk, and hardcore. Easy to pull from something that you have listened to for a really long time.
"I know Rafa also thinks about pulling from Merauder and different metal bands. Our FFO is easy: The Icemen, Warzone, Agnostic Front, Cro-Mags, Sheer Terror."
Latest release info:
(Steven): "A collective of some fast and aggressive tracks about weeding out the posers and tourists, hating the current political climate and the modern-day Nazis we call ICE, and having your friends' backs and straight edge or whatever."
Future plans:
(KC): "Play shows. Write more. Record and release more. We are all adults with actual jobs, and some of us are in other bands, so it's difficult to commit fully, but we would love to do a proper tour."
(Steven): "Currently trying to plan a little Florida weekender, possibly put some more music out very soon, just more shows more False Alarm in your face."
What other bands from your region should we check out?
(KC): "I want to shamelessly plug my other bands, Miracle and Covenant. From Jacksonville: Step 2 This. From Tampa: Afterthought. Both of these are my current favorite Florida hardcore bands. Something that real hardcore punk lovers should know about is AI Death Calculator from South Florida."
(Steven): "Guess What, Step 2 This, Zero Chill, Watts, Blockade."
(Rafa, guitar): "withpaperwings."
(Jackson): "Aside from those, I'll shout out Barricade, Bleeding Heart, Zero Mob, Afterthought, and Retina. Too many to name honestly."
(Steven): "Remote Control."
(KC): "A Day to Remember."
(Jackson): "New Found Glory."
