New Hardcore Band Spotlight: Drop Knee

Band: Drop Knee
From: Trondheim, Norway

Their formation story:
(Simon, guitar): "My partner, Miriam (vocals), and I met Nikolai (bass) in the coffee shop queue at Outbreak Fest in 2023 and realized we both lived in the same town. About 6 months later, Nikolai introduced us to Theodor (vocals) at a show his band Gnasher played.

"We realized we all had a lot in common and that we wanted to start a hardcore band. We then asked Johnny (drums) who had just moved to Trondheim from Örebro if he wanted to join. We’re really a friend group first and band second."

Their sound in their own words:
"We try to combine catchy hooks, hard breakdowns, and fast riffs with lyrics about animal liberation and self improvement. Our key influences include World of Pleasure, Trapped Under Ice, Turnstile, Backtrack, and Earth Crisis."

Latest release info:
"'Object Permanence' is a track we recorded while making our first EP (Punching Permit) that we felt would work better as a standalone single than as part of the EP. It’s a fast paced and angry track that draws inspiration from power violence and expresses some of our vocalist Miriam’s frustrations around being a woman in today’s hardcore scene."

Future plans:
"Our plan is to keep the momentum going and play as many shows as we can while writing for our next release. We would love to play more shows in new cities we haven’t yet been to."

What other bands from their region should we check out?
"Lâche and Nagirčalmmiid."
