Deafheaven have surprise-released a new three-song EP, At Work in the Fields of the Bomb, marking the band's first new material since last year's Lonely People With Power album, the California band's debut for Roadrunner Records.
Recorded with producer Arthur Rizk (Sumerlands, Cold World), the EP takes its title and central concept from Robert Del Tredici's photo book documenting the people and seemingly ordinary places involved in the production of nuclear weapons. Across the three tracks, Deafheaven examine the contrast between the bomb's catastrophic potential and the everyday actions and systems that can ultimately make that destruction possible.
The EP opens with “Hunter,” which arrives alongside a short film created by vocalist George Clarke and director Nico Poalillo, with Pulse Films and Academy Award-winning cinematographer Janusz Kaminski also involved in the production:
Deafheaven are currently touring the U.S. with Mastodon and Alcest. The run continues tonight at the Fox Theater in Oakland and includes an October 10 stop at the Hollywood Palladium before wrapping with an appearance at Sick New World in Fort Worth on October 24.
