California hardcore mainstays Ceremony are back with their first new music in over five years.
Fresh off consecutive weekends at Coachella, the band—Ross Farrar, Anthony Anzaldo, Andy Nelson, Justin Davis, and Jake Casarotti—have dropped a new single titled “Other Hells,” a two-minute burst that finds them reconnecting with their more aggressive roots. The track hits fast, driven by up-tempo drums and frenzied guitars, and leans hard into the band’s hardcore DNA.
According to Farrar, the song pulls from familiar thematic ground while reflecting the current moment:
“‘Other Hells’ started as a meditation on the dualistic arts and the interplay of opposing forces in our lives: awake/asleep, physical/spiritual, inhale/exhale,” he explains. “Amid the ongoing rise in politics that lean on tribalism and polarizing rhetoric… the song responds by aiming to unify, using punk’s great liberatory force: the slam.”
The release follows earlier activity from the band this year, including their first-ever live album, Live at the Hollywood Palladium, issued via Relapse Records. The recording captures Ceremony’s 2024 performance celebrating their seminal Rohnert Park LP, complete with a full set and encore that spans their catalog. The album was mixed by Taylor Young (Twitching Tongues, God's Hate) and mastered by Brad Boatright.
