English hardcore rockers Without Love are back with new music, following their 2023 split with Time X Heist.
Promo 2025 contains two tracks from their upcoming record, to be released later this year. Song 1, “Soul Purpose,” is out on all streaming platforms, and for now, the band are keeping Song 2, “Endless Revelations,” exclusive to the tape, with is available now in physical form. The band have kept busy since we last checked in with them playing all over the UK.
Now, gearing up for a new release, bassist/vocalist John and guitarist Henry answered some questions about happenings in the Without Love camp.
So, it’s been a while since we’ve talked to the band on No Echo. What’s been going on for the last two years?
John (bass/vocals): It doesn’t feel like two years – not sure where that time has gone! Quite a lot of time spent writing, and more recently recording. Playing some gigs here and there including a few weekenders, hitting some cities around the country that we haven’t played before. It’s been good, we got to play with some awesome bands and meet a lot of great people.
What can you tell us about your upcoming release?
Henry (guitar): Other than the promo, it’s been two years since we released anything, so we’re really stoked to share new music with people. We’re tracking it with Bob Cooper in Leeds, which has been a great experience, it’s pretty much done, just some vocals to finish off.
You can expect a similar brand of fast melodic songs but I feel these new tracks definitely have some harder inspired riffs and the record feels more diverse than our previous releases.
Tell us about the lyrics to "Soul Purpose" from the new promo.
John: This one is my “old man yells at cloud” song.
It’s a reflection on the way that reality and authenticity are gradually eroded in our lives and the fact that most people seem to be okay with it. Two examples being the impact of social media and AI. It makes me wonder what effect this has on the way we interact with one another and our morality in general which is also touched on in the lyrics.
I’m really digging the tape art direction. I love how the digital and j-card covers correlate with the plastic labels on the tape. Did you guys do this DIY?
(Henry): Thank you! We had a batch of tapes ordered from a plant but we didn’t know if they’d arrive in time for our most recent run of gigs so we also did a batch of home-dubbed tapes. We got them in time for the shows so it just meant that we have another variant which is always good.
John put in the hours designing the layout, embossing all the labels with a label maker and stuck them and the logo stickers on both batches of tapes and I think they turned out great.
You recently played some shows with Time X Heist. Is this the first time you’ve played together since the split came out?
John: Yeah, first time playing with or meeting any of them in person so it was awesome that we had the chance to do that! They’re so dialled in live and the nicest people.
We could only do a really short run with them as part of their longer UK/EU tour, hopefully we’ll get to do it again sometime and do a longer run together.
What can we expect from Without Love in the year ahead?
John: Our record will be out sometime later this year on Best Life Records, and as many gigs as we can make happen, including mainland Europe dates at some point hopefully.
