Tossed Out is a new hardcore band based in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. The quintet just dropped their debut EP, Show Some Respect, and I just had a quick chat with the band for my friends at No Echo.
Can you tell No Echo how this came together? I know you have been playing with Tossed Out for a minute. How did the band come together?
Tossed Out is a product of 20-plus years of friendship and the love of making music with your friends. It started as a side project, just fucking around with some songs our guitarist Joe wrote. We were all really stoked on how it came together, quickly got Tyler (the other guitarist) in the mix, and this is the final product.
We've all played in bands, either together or in adjacent projects, since high school, so this was the right move/lineup to have.
When I listen to the tracks on the EP, they are angry and straight in the face hardcore. I hear a ton of influences, dive bombs, call outs. What is the approach to Tossed Out in terms of writing?
So when we're writing Joe or Tyler will bring a song half done or entirely done. We play through them and from there we talk out things we think would fit or add parts we've been sitting on.
As for the lyrics, I have pages of unused lines where I mold full parts, and from them. There have been a few times where some of the guys will have lyrics for the song already mapped out, so that helps a lot too.
What are the band's influences? Obviously you listen to a ton of great hardcore, but what else is there?
There's definitely a lot in the blender here! We all listen to different eras and styles of hardcore but some bands we all agree rule and definitely come into play as influences would be: TUI, Rotting Out, Backtrack, SPEED, Think I Care, The Mongoloids, and definitely some Drain as well.
How has the reception been playing shows in an established hardcore scene being a new band?
It's been great! We've been lucky enough to have been able to play out of town a few times which is always fun being able to make those connections and making new friends, that's honestly half the fun.
The music scene here has been very positive and welcoming to a new band in our growing scene. It's nice to add to it and encourage people to start new bands!
Are there areas in Canada or the US where you would like to see Tossed Out play? Are there any artists you would like to share the stage with?
We're more than happy to play anywhere that will have us. Tossed Out is a band, but more importantly, it's a vehicle to experience new places and meet new people. Hanging with your best friends and also getting to write music you really love has been the best part.
What is in store for the future of Tossed Out? What can we expect to see coming in 2026?
We're going to be writing new music and getting some new merch out! Playing some places we haven't yet, hopefully, and eating some good food along the way!
