No Echo always rode for Rejection Pact, but now that the Idaho hardcore band isn't playing together, let us turn your attention to Slow Exit.
The Boise group's debut EP, Parting Words, will be out later this month. "Slow Exit started spring of 2024 when the PNW hardcore supergroup, Rejection Pact, went on hiatus," guitarist/vocalist Ralph Mugot says jokingly. "Alex [Anderson] and I have been playing together for a handful of years, but never really found people that would take things seriously. After coming off Rejection Pact, I needed an outlet so I hit Alex up and sure enough my boy said yes."
Ralph continues to tell the Slow Exit origin story: "I knew this guy Sean from work and he played for the first iteration of the band but we’ve decided that he was not a fit. So when we reshuffled our roster I moved from bass to guitar, and got Sam [Clemmons] (The Flail) to play bass and Josh [Menchaca] (CMMNWLTH) on drums. Once in a while we have Hunter [Wahl] (Witness Chamber) to play 3rd lead guitar. Boise is like the NBA’s G-League where everyone is ready to play. They just need a call up."
As far as Slow Exit's sound, they lean into the melodic side of things, but here's what Ralph has to say about it:
"Honestly, we’re still trying to find our sound, everyone is coming from different backgrounds of music. If you were to pigeonhole the sound it’ll be close to the 2010s emo and hardcore bands. We’re definitely ripping off these bands: Title Fight, Drug Church, Thrice, Superheaven, Basement."
With the EP coming out soon, Slow Exit is taking things as they come. "We’re just going to do our thing. Possibly to record another EP for next year. Who knows? What I do know is our next show is with Scowl and Glixen in Boise, then play Ogden, Utah on August 9th, and currently looking to book PNW for Oct 10-12th. We will hit up OR, WA, BC."
It wouldn't be a No Echo piece without a regional scene call out, and here's what Ralph is excited about in and around the Boise scene right now: "Witness Chamber, The Flail, Ingrown, All That Matters, Bad Charm, CMMNWLTH, Tolls, You Must Believe In Spring (just released an EP, killer tones, please listen), Odd Man Out."
