MOVINGDIGGINGTEETH formed the way a lot of the most honest hardcore bands do—out of long friendships, unfinished ideas, and the simple need to make something loud again. The Florida band features former Dragbody vocalist Scott White, and he gave me the heads up about the new project when I interviewed him during '90s Hardcore Week on the site back in September.
As drummer Dan Oxford explains to No Echo, the foundation was already there long before the band had a name. “Scott, Phil and I were in a band called Railsplitter back 20 plus years ago,” Dan says. “A few years ago I asked them both if they'd like to record 8 to 10 songs that I had written and release them. More to have something fun and creative to do than be a serious touring band.”
What started as a low-pressure idea gradually became more tangible. Living in different cities meant progress came slowly, but that distance also kept expectations realistic.“We knocked around for a couple of years, rehearsing sporadically because we all live in different cities,” Dan says. “In June of 2025 we recorded a few songs that turned out really well. We recently added our friend Scotto on bass and played our first show.”
Sonically, MOVINGDIGGINGTEETH sits firmly in fast, abrasive hardcore territory, but the band isn’t interested in one-note blasts. Dan describes the songs as short, urgent, and intentionally restless. “Our sound is mostly fast hardcore mixed with some slow heavy parts,” he says. “The songs are on the short side, but we try to keep them interesting with multiple sections and tempo changes.” That dynamic approach gives Scott ample room to enhance his vocal presence, which Dan sees as central to the band’s identity. “Scott has great lyrics that fit the intensity and urgency of the music,” he says. “He writes about subjects that are relevant to the times and to all of us.”
The band’s musical DNA is deeply rooted in extreme hardcore and power violence, reflecting Dan’s formative listening habits:
“I grew up loving bands like Infest, Crossed Out, Spazz, Hellnation and Assück, so I guess there's a little bit of all those bands in there when I write songs,” he explains. “I think we all have pretty similar influences in hardcore and heavy music in general. I think we can feel that when we play. It's very comfortable and fun for the four of us to play these songs together.”
For fans seeking a modern reference point, Dan points to bands operating in a similar lane of raw, no-frills aggression. “We make music for fans of bands like Iron Lung, LEVEL, Yambag, Wound Man, and Violencia.”
Looking ahead, MOVINGDIGGINGTEETH isn’t in a rush to scale things up. The band’s goals are modest by design, grounded in enjoyment rather than obligation. “I think we'd like to complete a few more songs and record them for another release,” Dan says. “We'd also like to play a show or two when it fits into our lives. Mainly have fun being in a band and hanging out with each other again. That's the most important thing."
As for the broader Florida scene, the members remain active beyond this project. Scott also fronts Thrull out of Orlando, while Phil stays busy in Tampa bands Dead Mirrors and The Path—further proof that MOVINGDIGGINGTEETH isn’t a nostalgia act, but another sharp outlet for people who never really stopped believing in hardcore’s core purpose.
