If you're jonesing for some straight-up, thrashy hardcore punk, Level Threat should do the trick. The UK band recently released their debut EP, a self-titled affair that showcases 6 tracks that fall onto the quicker side of the tempo spectrum.
"We've known each other for a few years, and have been in other bands together in various combinations, and happened to be at the annual Dean Lane Hardcore festival here in Bristol," said bassist Gav in an email to No Echo about Level Threat's formation. "Joe (drums) and Merv's (vocals) old hardcore band, No Warning Shot, had been broken up for a while. Rob (guitar) and my hardcore band, Finisher, had just wrapped up in the summer of 2023. So we were looking for something new, and Level Threat was born out of a desire to play fast hardcore."
When asked about specific influences, Gav responded with the following: "We are all fans of skate punk and NY-style hardcore, so that's where most of our song writing comes from. We like the fast, in your face parts, and we like the kick-your-granny-down-the-stairs parts, all in the one track. We want the tunes to have a lot of energy and impact live.
"We're from the South West of the UK, so want our sound to be a reflection of our surroundings, where we live, the venues we'll be playing. If you're a fan of Terror, Rykers, Pennywise, and Strife, you might like our EP."
Gav and company are committed to Level Threat and are clearly psyched about the future of the band and the local scene they're part of. "We're just getting started, our first show is in September in our hometown Bristol. Then pretty much want to get out there, play as much as we can, write some more tunes. Have as much fun as we can along the way.
"Bristol has a rich history of bands from all genres. Check out Grand Collapse, Zero Again, El Chapo, Priest Crippler, People Eater, Perp Walk, Split Dogs, Rash Decision. So many more, but these are in my current playlists."
