Meet Hamarr, a power trio based in Indianapolis, Indiana. Formed in 2022, the band walks a stylistic tightrope between death metal and metallic hardcore.
"We have always involved both because we evenly like both so we try to bridge those two worlds while staying dedicated to that old-school Swedish death metal sound," guitarist/vocalist Chris Isaacs tells No Echo. "We have so many influences, but to give a Top 5, I would have to go with Clandestine-era Entombed, Black Breath, Max Cavalera-era Sepultura, Slayer, and Power Trip. Some honorable mentions include Left Behind and Nails, for sure."
Hamarr's latest release is entitled Bloodthirst, and it's the follow-up to the band's Sapience in Anguish EP from 2022:
"Writing and recording that EP really showed us out as a band in my opinion and helped solidify our sound as a whole," says Isaacs. "As far as lyrical content, with the exception of 'Draugr' being an ode to fans of fantasy video games, I like to think the rest of the EP is like a testament to different ways of handling life-changing conflicts and how we process them."
With their stylistic approach, it sounds like Hamarr will be in good shape in their region's music scene, according to Isaacs. "Right now, in Indiana, the hardcore/death metal scenes are like morphed together and thriving more than ever in my opinion, wich is amazing. Indiana has so many bands right now crushing shit. Look out for bands like 1 Body 6 Graves, Piss Ant, Flesher, Feticide, Rest Assured, Crossfire, Gallows Bird, KOTM, Observer, Kings Gambit, and Ripped Open."
This Novemeber will see the release of a new self-titled EP from Hamarr through Iron Fortress Records. Stay tuned to their social media for updates.
