Heavy and Fast Records is making a name for itself via quality releases since launching in 2022. Their latest signing, Washington DC’s Goetia, is one to watch out for.
Goetia plays one of my favorite genres: blackened death thrash. The music reminds me of great death thrash bands like Defleshed, The Crown, and Kreator. The Washington, DC-based trio closes out their forthcoming EP with a superb cover of Kreator’s 1986 classic, “Ripping Corpse." If this sounds like a band you would be into, I have good news for you!
Goetia’s second EP, Tomb Essence, will be released in September on limited edition vinyl, cassette, and compact disc. It also will be available on most streaming services. In addition to the new EP, Heavy and Fast Records will also be reissuing Goetia's self-titled first EP on CD and cassette, allowing new fans and collectors alike to experience the band's early work.
"We are incredibly excited to join forces with Heavy and Fast Records + Distro," said Matt Scott, Goetia's lead vocalist and bass player. "This partnership will allow us to reach a wider audience and deliver our music in multiple formats. We can't wait for our fans to hear Tomb Essence and revisit our first EP."
Heavy & Fast was kind enough to give No Echo a first listen to the new EP. I tested this in my car to ensure maximum assault on my ears! Tomb Essence opens with the best way to kick off any soon-to-be landmark release, with a sound clip!
The first few moments of any opening track are key, and "Naturam Demonto" kicks off with one of the gnarliest dive bombs I heard in quite some time! I was instantly impressed. The riffs are fast but very well structured and are very cohesive, and purposeful. "Naruram Demonto" is a great example of how intense this group shreds in a short amount of time.
I could keep talking about the opening track, but luckily No Echo has an exclusive track premiere for the first single along with the official video:
The rest of the EP follows suit from the opening track. It is relentless, with one of the most entertaining rhythm sections. There are countless moments on Tomb Essence that showcase how talented bassist/vocalist Matt Scott and drummer Aidan Tydings-Lynch are.
Tydings-Lynchis hitting fills and bell rides that remind me of Exmortis! The sinister-sounding vocals are a perfect compliment to the music, and key to making Goetia's songs sound like a Satanic nightmare! That is another thing I love about Goetia; the occult themes they explore.
Tomb Essence has unmistaken energy and speed. Between all the feedback, whammy pulls, and blast beats, Goetia has to be a must-see live act. If they match half the energy on this EP, a live show would definitely be worth the price of admission. Also worth being out past 9 o’clock for.
Goetia happen to be hitting the road this week to start Invoking Decay 2024, a nine-stop tour supporting death metal powerhouse Molder in the Northeast and Midwest.
Now let’s talk about pizza. I asked the band’s favorite pizza place because that is important! “Our favorite pizza place in the local DC area is Andy's Pizza,” says Matt, “It's a fantastic local chain that never disappoints."
Tomb Essence will be out on September 30th, with pre-orders going live on September 17th, via Heavy and Fast Records.
